About LDS missions in Mexico
There are currently 35 active LDS missions based in Mexico, in 26 cities across 21 regions. Some cities carry more than one: México City (6), Puebla (3) and Guadalajara (2), among others. Those cities are spread about 3,250 km (2,000 miles) from Tijuana in the west to Cancún in the east and about 2,850 km (1,750 miles) from Mexicali in the north to Tuxtla Gutiérrez in the south.
6 missions are based in the national capital, Mexico City. Mission cities range from near sea level at Mexicali (4 m / 13 ft) to Pachuca at 2,393 m (7,851 ft).
Missionaries serve across areas set by their mission, which can reach well beyond the city the mission is based in, and they are transferred between those areas during a mission.

Always use your Missionary Portal and your mission’s own “what to bring” instructions when deciding what clothing or equipment to pack. This describes the weather, not what to take.
Languages
Spanish is the language most widely used across Mexico.
- Spanish
This describes the country, not the assignment. The language a missionary is called to speak is set by the Church and stated in the call itself — it can differ from the languages above, and missionaries serving in the same country are not always assigned the same one.
Preparing to serve in Mexico
If you have received a mission call to Mexico, begin with the instructions in your Missionary Portal and the mission’s own letter — those are the only sources that speak for your mission. These guides cover the practical side nobody sends you: the paperwork, the shopping, the packing and the last weeks at home.
