About LDS missions in the Philippines

There are currently 31 active LDS missions based in the Philippines, in 29 cities across 15 regions. Some cities carry more than one: Cebu (2) and Quezon City (2). Those cities are spread about 800 km (500 miles) from Puerto Princesa in the west to Davao in the east and about 1,450 km (900 miles) from Laoag in the north to General Santos in the south.

5 missions are based in the national capital, Manila. Mission cities range from near sea level at Naga (6 m / 20 ft) to Baguio at 1,493 m (4,898 ft).

Missionaries serve across areas set by their mission, which can reach well beyond the city the mission is based in, and they are transferred between those areas during a mission.

Local time in the Philippines

Every mission in the Philippines keeps Asia/Manila. The clock below is live, and follows daylight saving where it applies.

Missionary Tracker shows this clock next to your missionary, so nobody at home has to work out whether it is a reasonable hour to write.

Climate and seasons in the Philippines

Mission cities in the Philippines fall into 3 Köppen climate classes, so conditions are not the same across the country.

The most common are tropical monsoon (Am), covering 14 missions including Angeles and Antipolo, tropical rainforest (Af), covering 9 missions including Bacolod and Butuan and tropical savanna (Aw), covering 8 missions including Baguio and Cabanatuan.

Across those cities, the warmest monthly average high is 35 °C (95 °F) in Urdaneta during April, and the coolest monthly average low is 15 °C (58 °F) in Baguio during January.

Always use your Missionary Portal and your mission’s own “what to bring” instructions when deciding what clothing or equipment to pack. This describes the weather, not what to take.

Languages

The languages most widely used across the Philippines are Filipino and English.

This describes the country, not the assignment. The language a missionary is called to speak is set by the Church and stated in the call itself — it can differ from the languages above, and missionaries serving in the same country are not always assigned the same one.

Preparing to serve in the Philippines

If you have received a mission call to the Philippines, begin with the instructions in your Missionary Portal and the mission’s own letter — those are the only sources that speak for your mission. These guides cover the practical side nobody sends you: the paperwork, the shopping, the packing and the last weeks at home.

Visa and travel arrangements for the Philippines are handled through your Missionary Portal and the Church’s travel office. Follow their instructions rather than any third-party summary, including this one.
