About LDS missions in Peru
There are currently 17 active LDS missions based in Peru, in 9 cities across 9 regions. Some cities carry more than one: Lima (8) and Trujillo (2). Those cities are spread about 1,800 km (1,150 miles) from Piura in the west to Tacna in the east and about 1,600 km (1,000 miles) from Iquitos in the north to Tacna in the south.
8 missions are based in the national capital, Lima. Every mission city is south of the equator, so the calendar seasons run the opposite way to the northern hemisphere: December to February is summer and June to August is winter. Mission cities range from near sea level at Chiclayo (1 m / 3 ft) to Huancayo at 3,596 m (11,798 ft).
Missionaries serve across areas set by their mission, which can reach well beyond the city the mission is based in, and they are transferred between those areas during a mission.

Mission cities in Peru fall into 4 Köppen climate classes, so conditions are not the same across the country.
The most common are hot desert (BWh), covering 13 missions including Chiclayo and Lima, subtropical highland (Cwb), covering 2 missions including Cusco and Huancayo and tropical rainforest (Af), covering 1 mission including Iquitos.
Across those cities, the warmest monthly average high is 33 °C (91 °F) in Piura during February, and the coolest monthly average low is -3 °C (27 °F) in Cusco during July.

Arequipa
Always use your Missionary Portal and your mission’s own “what to bring” instructions when deciding what clothing or equipment to pack. This describes the weather, not what to take.
Languages
Spanish is the language most widely used across Peru.
- Spanish
This describes the country, not the assignment. The language a missionary is called to speak is set by the Church and stated in the call itself — it can differ from the languages above, and missionaries serving in the same country are not always assigned the same one.
Preparing to serve in Peru
If you have received a mission call to Peru, begin with the instructions in your Missionary Portal and the mission’s own letter — those are the only sources that speak for your mission. These guides cover the practical side nobody sends you: the paperwork, the shopping, the packing and the last weeks at home.
